Best albums of 2009

Hundreds of albums are being released this year, here are some of my favourite albums of the year found on my iTunes. Definitely recommended to buy (or download!)
If you have been wondering why do I hate mostly female singers? You're wrong. There are 4 female singers in this list. I don't prejudice against women, it just happens that the music I hate are almost all by females. Given the same music with a male singer, I would still hate the music.

Kisschasy - Seizures
A band from Melbourne, Australia, I clearly remember when they just released their album and began touring nationally, I coincidentally was in the same city with them for 3 times.
They have one of the catchiest music of the power pop genre, but never got big. What a pity.

Rating: 3/5

The Almost - Monster Monster
If you love Underoath, but want a lighter music, The Almost is your best choice.

Rating: 3/5

30 Seconds to Mars - This is War
Nothing to say, this is a absofuckinglutely brilliant record. Easily 'Album of the Year'

Rating: 5/5

The xx - xx
The xx's music are very unique, most of them are just drums, bass and handclaps.
If you've been to Topshop/Topman recently you must have heard their song 'Basic Space'

Sounds like: Themselves

Rating: 3.5/5

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - It's Blitz!
Although they lost their previous sound, their new sound is as catchy as before. After all, it's the YYYs!

Rating: 4.5/5

Passion Pit - Manners
I first got one of their songs as iTunes free single of the week. I only listened once and didn't play it until a girl from Boston gave me the entire album. I fell in love with Passion Pit since.

Rating: 4.5/5

Paramore - brand new eyes
If "Decode" comes to your mind when I say "Paramore", you can go and fuck yourself.
Although I hate Power Pop, but this album is undeniably good.

Rating: 4.5/5

John Mayer - Battles Studies
Sounds different than Continuum, it's still good! I still think John Mayer ft Taylor Swift is like a gazillion times better than Boys Like Girls ft Taylor Swift.

Rating: 4/5

The Horrors - Primary Colours
Don't be put off by their looks, they actually make good music.
Too bad I can't get to see them at Big Day Out next year! :(

Rating: 3.5/5

Gallows - Grey Britain
Together with 'Orchestra of Wolves', are the best heavy music I've heard in many years.
Guitars are very melodic, bass lines are so catchy, what more could you ask for?
Too bad again I can't see them at Soundwave Festival next year, hopefully they play at Reading.

Rating: 5/5

Florence and the Machine - Lungs
First heard of them on the soundtrack of "Jennifer's Body", read about the amazing reviews and got the album. It turned out to be pretty good.

Rating: 3.5/5

Rant on Power Pop bands.

Power pop bands are becoming so so so annoying now. Back in the days we had punk rock bands like Rancid, and they influenced a bunch of kids who then became Blink 182, and Good Charlotte. As the "Punk" goes poppier and poppier, more and more bands appeared. Suddenly everyone wanted to start a pop punk band. Reason? It's sooo cool and easy. (seriously, if you know how to play a power chord, you can start a power pop band)

Back then I used to love power pop bands, to name a few, The Academy Is..., Boys Like Girls, All Time Low, The Cab, Cute is what we aim for blablablablablablabla........
I had enough.

They are seriously very annoying! hahaha!

What triggered me? Increasing amount of similar bands playing similar songs attracting similar age groups (young kids) of fans and We the Kings and Boys Like Girls' new albums!

I listened to their latest albums on MySpace and felt like oh shit its rubbishhhhhhh.

ok thats all fuckaaa

I LOVE ADB!

"Sorry man, 2012 sold out!"

"Fuck!"

"Where should we go then?"

"Hmmm... Kajang!"

"want meh.....?"

"really meh......???"

"OOOOOOONNNNNNNN"

"Ok la ok la lets go. who drive?"

"You lah fucker gab, I pay toll la.. on?"

"k la k la lets go la"

We left Klang for Kajang at around 10pm. After so many U-turns, we finally reach Kajang.

We managed to persuade Ah Man to leave his hostel to hang out with us. Provided if we hang out with him until 6am, because that's when the hostel gate reopens.

Our journey:
Klang - Kajang - Pudu - Kajang - Shah Alam - Klang - Kota Kemuning.

I reached home at 7.45am.

Although it was a bit tiring but, where else to find these kind of buddies to hang out with?

I LOVE ADB!

Who are ADB?

Six feet tall.

I met a man of 2 feet tall
This man was quite ambitious
In a world that is so vicious
To us all, I said "hi"
As he replied, he said
Listen to these words that I have lived by my whole life.

You're only as tall
As your heart will let you be
And your only as small
As the world will make you seem
And when the going gets rough
And you feel like you may fall
Just look on the bright side
You're roughly six feet tall.

See the bright side.

As I was walking down Rundle Mall today,
I saw a group of less fortunate people performing some songs.
They're from the Down Syndrome foundation or something.

One thing that touched me the most is they're so happy with their life even though they're less fortunate.
We people have legs, hands and a face of a normal person but yet we still complain about this and that.
That guy complains about his height, that girl about her boob size, that guy about his ipod, that girl about her lipstick..........

I feel like helping these people, I love their sincerity, happy go lucky life, and their purity.

I feel like we were born to this world to help the less fortunate people, just like if you were born less fortunate you would want people to help you too.

I feel like we should dedicate our spare time to help these people and stop bothering about how much money can you earn, what car you're aiming to buy, what share is worth buying etc.

Spread the love and make this world a better place.

Sewing 101.

for some unknown reasons, my pants were torn.
I really have no idea how did it happen, I didn't fall, I did nothing I just wore it as normal.
I realised that I have a big hole in my pants yesterday, it was only the left.
But today I shockingly discovered another hole on the right when my friend asked me
"Eh What happened to your pants? You fell down is it??"

So then I thought,
hmm, new pants?
Sew?
$69.
20 minutes.
So i decided to sew.

Do girls like guys who can sew?

Almost Here.

The Academy Is... - Almost Here
Released: February 8, 2005.

This is The Academy Is...'s debut album, and to be honest, the first time I heard it, I felt that it sucked. 'Slow Down' was the first track I heard, recommended to me by a friend. I still remember he said,

"Hey bro do you know The Academy Is...?"

5 minutes later...

"Yo bro you there?"

"Yes I'm here. The Academy Is what? I've been waiting for u to complete ur sentence"

"Haha no bro. the band is called The Academy Is..., weird but cool huh? Check out the song 'Slow Down'"

The moment I listened, I was like, what the fuck is wrong with this song? It's definitely different than shits I always hear on MTV. But the more I listened, the better it got. I just love the crystal clear indie sound chords during the verses.

Sad but true, their albums are getting suckier and suckier. Rolling Stones named their latest album 'Fast Times at Barrington High' as one of 50 Best Albums in 2008. I beg to differ.

They have become sellouts.
It's time to delete this band of my favourite bands list.

Phrazes for the Young.

Julian Casablancas - Phrazes for the Young
Released: Nov 2, 2009.

As the chief songwriter for The Strokes, his debut solo album is definitely a one to be looked out for. The first single "11th Dimension" sounds promising and had everyone's hopes high that the entire album will sound as good as the single. Unfortunately, it's not.

All of the songs are at least 4 minutes long, and honestly I got lost shortly after the first song begun. I felt like I've been lost for an hour before I heard the familiar and catchy "11th Dimension".

Heatwave

Today is the 5th day for the temperature being above 38c
Ever imagined what 39c feels like?
Naked here = Wear a sweater around 2pm in KL OUTDOOR UNDER THE SUN
The worst part is, the weather is so dry that no amount of water is enough to hydrate my lips.
And my throat feels so fucking dry.

argh.

Night here is as hot as afternoon in KL.

Oh yeah, Ive got no fan, no aircond, and the fucking god doesnt create any wind.
So basically i'm fucked.
And then I came up with the idea of sleeping in Uni because of the free air cond.
I did.

UPDATE: I stole a fan but it doesn't do any good either. Because it sucks and blows hot air. god damn it.

Ahhh mennn ehemm no shit

I will not bow down to an invisible man.
I will not confess the invisible man is the kings of kings.
Malaysia belongs to Malaysians not the invisible man from Israel.
Revival's first step is to wake up and face the reality by using your logical sense.

All or Nothing.

The Subways - All Or Nothing

Remember back in February at the Soundwave Festival, I walked with my friend Boey to the Main Stage to catch Forever the Sickest Kids after Jack's Mannequin's set ended, there was a band playing on the Second Stage. The drummer was wearing a terrorist mask, the female bassist was headbanging, and lastly the lead singer's British Accent caught my attention.

They were The Subways.

The lead singer talked a lot. Complimenting Adelaide Girls' boobs, throwing a lot of bottles to the crowd asking them to cool themselves, asking them to mosh hard to create a dust storm.

I didn't know who they were back then, but I remembered one song.
"Be my, be my, be my rock and roll queen~~~~'

I recently got their sophomore album, and I really think it kicks ass!

If you like rock music, please go and have a listen.
p/s: You will not like this album if you love MTV or the radio.

Radio Business

I've been thinking for months now, what do I wanna be in the future?
What job I wanna work in the future?
Do I wanna work for people or open my own company?
If I work for people, which company then?
If I open my own business, which business then?

Finally, an idea struck my mind.

Why not do the thing I love most?

PLAY MUSIC!

Well not in a band or something, PLAY MUSIC.
THE RADIO BUSINESS!

I'm fucking sick of the current radio, be it Hitz FM or Fly FM.
They play the same crap over and over again everyday.
WE NEED SOME GOOD MUSIC!

YES! THE RADIO BUSINESS!
How cool is that?

Maybe in 10 years time u'll see my face on Forbes.

GABRIEL -
THE MAN WHO MADE PEOPLE THINK THERE ARE STILL GOOD MUSIC OUT THERE!

hahaha.
time to wake up.
